Improve our homes to withstand the climate change.Tanzania’s Nature’s Pride: Building for the Future Improve our homes to withstand the climate change.

At Tanzania Nature’s Pride (TNP), we understand the importance of tradition. Manyattas, the iconic roundhouses of Tanzania, have served communities for generations. But times are changing. The effects of climate change are bringing more extreme weather events, threatening these cherished homes.

TNP is proud to be at the forefront of a movement: future-proofing the manyatta. We’re not abandoning tradition; we’re building on it. Here’s how:

  • Stronger Foundations: Traditionally, manyattas used mudbrick. We’re incorporating stabilized earth blocks, which are more durable and weather-resistant.
  • Smarter Roofs: Thatched roofs, while beautiful, can be vulnerable to heavy rains. We’re introducing options like metal sheeting with proper ventilation to ensure lasting protection.
  • Harnessing Nature’s Power: TNP is exploring ways to integrate solar panels into the manyatta design. This provides clean energy for lighting and appliances, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Water Wise Design: Manyattas can incorporate rainwater harvesting systems. This captured water can be used for drinking, irrigation, and sanitation, promoting sustainability during droughts.

Manyattas can incorporate rainwater harvesting systems. This captured water can be used for drinking, irrigation, and sanitation, promoting sustainability during droughts. Implementing these advancements requires collaboration and support. TNP is actively seeking partnerships with organizations and individuals who share our commitment to preserving Tanzania’s heritage while adapting to climate change.
